Aboriginal health data centre is
launched in British Columbia
B.C. – The Inter Tribal Health Authority (ITHA) announced the official
launch of a unique health data centre, to service the health information
needs of First Nations communities, through the use of state-of-the-art

The use of technology is helping to provide better access to health
services, and also clearly illustrates a First Nation owned-and-operated
approach to research and information management, supported by the ITHA
Board of Directors.
Located in Nanaimo (on the Snuneymuxw First Nation), the ITHA data
centre launches its first application, the hosting of an Electronic
Medical Record (EMR) application from Intrahealth Canada Ltd., known as

technology, the ITHA data centre takes up very little space with its two
mid-sized cabinets – unlike data centres of a decade ago that took up an

The new data centre underpins ITHA’s vision for the establishment of a
public-private-partnership currently under negotiation with Khiasma, a
health transformation firm, and Ajilon, a global leader in Managed
Services and Information Technology consulting. “In working together, we
have focused on building a data centre that is capable of expanding to
support e-health throughout British Columbia and beyond,” explained Fox.
ITHA is working with its corporate partners to develop a Data Centre and
EMR expansion and sustainability model.
