Agfa to build physician portals for hospitals

TORONTO – Agfa HealthCare Canada announced that it has become the exclusive Canadian distributor for MEDSEEK’s e-health portal solutions and will develop physician web portals for The Credit Valley Hospital, in Mississauga, Ont., and Scarborough General and Scarborough Grace hospitals.

Building on the success of installations at Hamilton Health Sciences, William Osler Health Centre, and Halton Healthcare Services, Agfa’s new IMPAX Clinical Dashboard solution (powered by MEDSEEK), enables easy and efficient access to the information physicians need from virtually anywhere, the company said.

“It is crucial that we have easy access to the most accurate and comprehensive information about each of our patients. Agfa’s IMPAX Clinical Dashboard gives us that, and more,” said Dan Germain (pictured), Vice President and CFO, The Credit Valley Hospital, and e-Health Lead for the Mississauga Halton Local Integration Network. “We evaluated a number of other systems, but Agfa’s solution was the obvious choice for us, offering a superior product suite and the most competitive pricing in the industry.

“This system will allow The Credit Valley Hospital to integrate our clinical data with other providers in our region, which will reduce duplication of clinical work – a critical factor as we face continued financial pressure to increase patient services.”

Providing the best patient care possible is directly dependent on being able to easily access as much information about each patient as possible. Agfa’s IMPAX Clinical Dashboard product provides physicians with a personalized, convenient, and secure way to access and view patient information online.

Unlike traditional portal offerings, Agfa’s IMPAX Clinical Dashboard solution can access clinical data from disparate systems through one unified view, enabling easy review of patients’ records, lab results, EKG studies, cardiology images, PACS images, transcriptions, and progress reports, according to the company. It also optimizes the user experience by only having to sign-on once.

“Hospitals are looking to achieve enterprise-wide system interoperability to facilitate better decision-making and improved communications. To do that, proven, advanced web-portal technology is needed,” said Peter Kuhn, President, MEDSEEK. “Thanks to our partnership with Agfa HealthCare Canada, leading hospitals across the country will now have instant access to the information that matters most, wherever and whenever they need it.”

Additional Dashboard features:

• Increased insight – lab results can be trended and graphed for deeper insight into patient situation; access to real-time information on patient vitals gained; users can request and track status of referrals
• Improved communication – secure messaging with other portal users
• Customization – multiple views available; can view or print Face Sheets for patients; can view or print their IDX/EWS schedule by day or week
• Robust security – doctors can give other office staff selected access to portal data, based on authorization

The IMPAX Clinical Dashboard also enables physicians to view their patients as admitting, attending or referring, and create links to other patients when needed for consulting cases. Additionally, referring physicians can view patients that have been linked to them during appointment scheduling or registration.

“To deliver superior patient care, today’s hospitals demand innovative solutions that provide instant access to patient information, inside and outside of the hospital environment,” said Andrew Giles, Marketing Manager for Enterprise Solutions at Agfa HealthCare Canada. “Through Agfa’s IMPAX Clinical Dashboard, we can deliver all relevant information, when and where it’s required.

“This has a dramatic effect on heightening patient diagnosis and care, regardless of discipline,” Giles added. “The ability to easily and securely access patient information significantly improves decision-making and communications with all stakeholders.”
