Toshiba to equip advanced cardiac facility

MARKHAM, Ont. – Toshiba of Canada Medical Systems Group has announced that it will supply the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre with some of North America’s most technologically advanced and comprehensive cardiac imaging equipment. The cost of the equipment is approximately $23 million.

The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC), part of the University Health Network in Toronto, is one of the top cardiac treatment facilities in Canada. Since it opened in 1997, the PMCC has saved, sustained and improved the lives of cardiac patients around the world.

Earlier this year, mining tycoon Peter Munk donated $37 million to the cardiac centre, one of the largest gifts ever made to a Canadian hospital. The funds were earmarked for acquiring leading-edge diagnostic and surgical technologies.

“This equipment will provide the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre with unparalleled cardiac imaging capabilities, which will ensure that patients benefit from the most advanced diagnosis and treatment available in North America,” said Behram Engineer (pictured), Vice President and General Manager of Toshiba of Canada’s Medical Systems Group.

“Our vision is to deliver tomorrow’s technology today, to help radiologists and cardiologists work together for the benefit of patients,” said Mr. Engineer. “We are proud to have developed this sophisticated equipment and excited about the benefits that will be realized by the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre.

The medical imaging technology will be installed in phases over the next 24 months and includes:

• Two or three of the world’s most advanced Aquilion CT cardiac scanners

• Several Infinix cardiac/angio labs

• Hemo dynamics and cardiac C-PACS from McKesson

• Toshiba’s innovative IVR system, with integrated CT and angio capabilities

• Several dozen of Aplio ultrasound systems

• A comprehensive ultrasound networking system.

The PMCC is based at Toronto General Hospital – a member of University Health Network which also includes Toronto Western Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital. All three are teaching hospitals affiliated with the University of Toronto.
