North York General automates workforce with Kronos

NORTH YORK, Ont. – Paper-based scheduling and time management is about to become a thing of the past at one of Canada’s largest hospitals. As part of its commitment to employee satisfaction and high-quality patient care, North York General Hospital has selected Kronos for Healthcare, from Kronos Inc., of Mississauga, Ont.

Kronos for Healthcare is an integrated suite of workforce management solutions that enables organizations to reduce direct labour costs and improve employee satisfaction while ensuring high levels of patient care.

The Kronos solution will enable the hospital to automate and standardize scheduling and time and labour policies for 3,000 unionized and administrative staff.

“As one of Canada’s busiest community teaching hospitals, more efficient workforce management means our employees can focus on what they do best: serving patients with kindness and excellence,” said Susan Kwolek (pictured at left), Vice President, Quality and Corporate Performance. “By helping North York General Hospital take care of its scheduling and time and labour policies, Kronos will help us take better care of our patients, their families, and our staff.”

Kronos for Healthcare automatically collates employee schedules with pay policies to generate a complete and accurate record of time worked by all staff. This record is then imported into the hospital’s existing payroll system automatically, which reduces payment grievances and eliminates paper-based management and manual data-entry.

The Kronos software also recognizes and monitors multiple employee qualifiers, such as seniority, collective agreements, hours worked and leave entitlement. In addition, its automated scheduling function means the hospital always has the right number of qualified professionals on-site and on-duty.

There is also an important tool for business management and planning: Kronos for Healthcare features a comprehensive reporting system that can generate multiple reports, such as overtime and variance analyses of actual time worked versus time scheduled.

“Kronos for Healthcare helps North York General Hospital ensure accurate record-keeping and fair and equitable pay policies across the entire organization, while factoring in the needs of both administrative and unionized workers,” said Pierre Bélanger, Canada’s general manager at Kronos. “The end result is a satisfied and well-deployed team that can put its focus on its top priority excellent patient care.”
