Credit Valley Hospital receives $6 million gift

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Long-time community friend and supporter, The Erin Mills Development Corporation, has donated $6 million to the Regional Women’s and Children’s Health Centre at The Credit Valley Hospital, the largest single donation to the $45M Lifetime of Care Campaign.

“In recognition of The Erin Mills Development Corporation’s generous and transformative gift, we are pleased to announce that the new facility will be named the Erin Mills Regional Women’s and Children’s Health Centre,” said Michael Kilkenny, chairman, board of directors, The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation.

“The generosity of The Erin Mills Development Corporation enables The Credit Valley Hospital to continue to provide access to the highest quality of care for our patients. This new space will allow us to provide care in a truly patient and family centered atmosphere,” said Michelle DiEmanuele, president and CEO, The Credit Valley Hospital. “We are grateful to have the support of such a strong community leader and would like to thank The Erin Mills Development Corporation for this amazing gift.”

“The Erin Mills Development Corporation has been committed to growing this community for more than 25 years and we’ve observed, firsthand, the significant role that The Credit Valley Hospital plays in our community,” said Rudy Bratty, co-founder, The Erin Mills Development Corporation. “We are humbled and honoured as a group of families to not only support Credit Valley in this important way but to also know that the families in this community will receive the best healthcare right in the community that they live.”

The new Erin Mills Regional Women’s and Children’s Health Centre at The Credit Valley Hospital will open this spring, providing healthcare to a far reaching regional community, housing an expanded birthing unit and mother/baby unit for the more than 5,000 babies born at Credit Valley each year and an advanced level II neonatal intensive care unit. Services will also support high risk pregnancies and deliveries.

The Centre will also house the regional paediatrics program, including the largest paediatric oncology satellite program in Ontario (outside of Sick Kids Hospital), paediatric medical and surgical inpatient and outpatient units. The Erin Mills Regional Women’s and Children’s Health Centre will ensure that families in our regional community of Halton and South Peel will receive the best in women’s and children’s healthcare in the community in which they live.

“Having this expanded healthcare facility right in our community will mean that we can care for kids, especially with complex issues such as babies requiring intensive care, while being able to keep the immediate family close by. And, we are also able to attract the best healthcare providers in paediatrics to join our already wonderful team of physicians and nurses,” said Dr. Ann Bayliss, chief of paediatrics, The Credit Valley Hospital.

“The Regional Women’s and Children’s Health Centre here will mean that the residents of this community will have access to the leading coordination of expertise for mother/baby care,” said Dr. Carol Wade, chief of obstetrics and gynaecology. “We will be able to improve the full range of service offerings for mothers and babies from early pregnancy through to post delivery and the enhanced space will allow us to make the birthing experience as focused on the family as we can.”

The Erin Mills Development Corporation did not just build houses when it incorporated in 1983, it built communities. The Credit Valley Hospital put its shovel in the ground at the same time, and grew to meet the healthcare needs of the communities the founders of Erin Mills Development Corporation helped to build across the region.

Now, the Bratty, Daniels, DeGasperis, Muzzo and Reisman families, as Erin Mills Development Corporation, have partnered with The Credit Valley Hospital to secure the health of the community for generations to come.

The Erin Mills Regional Women’s and Children’s Health Centre will be part of a wide ranging partnership in healthcare, working with peer hospitals in the Region and the GTA to ensure that The Credit Valley Hospital provides the best patient focused and family centred care across the region for mother/baby, children and youth health care. From a woman experiencing a difficult pregnancy to a newborn needing intensive care to a child needing specialized medical care, The Erin Mills Regional Women’s and Children’s Health Centre will provide the care that is needed.

“For more than 25 years, we’ve been aligned with The Erin Mills Development Corporation - building and supporting the community together,” said Kathy Hay, president and CEO, The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation. “The Erin Mills Development Corporation isn’t just a business - it’s a group of families that are now leaving a legacy for the health of families across the region; a legacy that secures the health of future generations.”
