Quinte Health Care connected to repository

BELLEVILLE, Ont. – Quinte Health Care (QHC), which has four sites, QHC Belleville General, QHC North Hastings, QHC Prince Edward County Memorial and QHC Trenton, is now connected to the Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Repository Services (HDIRS) data repository.

“We are proud to be the first third party picture archiving and communication system (PACS) platform to connect to the HDIRS data repository,” said Cathy Sharland, Corporate Manager Diagnostic Imaging. “The ability to share images and reports among health care organizations will help to create workflow efficiencies within our department as well as improve accessibility to patients’ images.”

PACS administrator Dianna Kiss added, “We will no longer be required to transfer QHC images to compact discs (CDs), nor will we need to import other institutions’ CDs. This will save time and reduce storage costs. We handle approximately 50 to 100 CDs per day.”

Dr. Matt Downey (pictured), QHC Chief of Radiology added, “Being connected to the HDIRS data repository will greatly enhance the cooperative relationship between community and university hospitals as well as provide new opportunities for regional diagnostic planning.”

HDIRS is a partnership between 23 hospital corporations. The organization formed with the founding goal of creating a shared diagnostic imaging repository. When all of HDIRS partners are connected to the diagnostic imaging repository, the system will enable 35 health facilities to share diagnostic images (such as X-rays and ultrasounds) and reports.
