Finnish system approved for digital mammo in Canada

The Finnish Planmed Oy is pleased to announce that the company has received Health Canada approval for its full field digital mammography (FFDM) system – called Planmed Nuance Excel. The approval also includes the Nuance DigiGuide digital stereotactic system.

Planmed Nuance Excel features a large 24x31 cm amorphous selenium (a-Se) detector. The unit is equipped with Planmed’s proprietary MaxView Breast Positioning System, which facilitates breast positioning and helps to draw and capture more chest wall tissue into the field of view, thereby maximizing the amount of visible breast tissue seen on the mammogram.

The digital stereotactic biopsy system Nuance DigiGuide is the most light-weight stereotactic device available today, and it is available as an option for the whole line of Planmed FFDM products.

“We are happy to offer Canadian women our latest innovations in digital mammography,” says Mr. Vesa Mattila, Vice President of Planmed Oy. “Planmed mammography units are widely used in Canada and this approval further expands our product line to cover the on-going transition to digital mammography.”

Earlier Planmed has obtained a Medical Device License for the Canadian market for the Planmed Nuance full field digital mammography system. Planmed Nuance and Planmed Nuance Excel units are well suited for screening and for diagnostic procedures.

In addition to two detector sizes the Planmed FFDM product line is well known for its excellent image quality, low radiation dose, exquisite design and superior ergonomics.

Planmed Full Field Mammography Products are distributed and supported in Canada by CAN-med Healthcare, a Division of I.M.P. Group Limited of Halifax, NS.

“We have enjoyed a long-standing association with Planmed, an innovator in advanced mammography systems,” says Pat Artinoff, National Sales Director for CAN-med Healthcare’s Health Imaging Division. “With about 30 Planmed Analogue Mammography systems installed in Canada, we look forward to taking that association to the next level, by installing the first Nuance Excel FFDM system in Canada very soon”.
