BC team honoured for improving
diabetes care
SASKATOON – British Columbia’s
Interior Health Authority received the first annual 3M HIM Team Quality
Award at the Canadian Health Information Management Association
conference, held here earlier this month. The award was presented to the
Interior Health team by CHIMA, in recognition for implementing
pre-printed insulin forms that improve the quality of care for
in-patient adult diabetics.
“As a leading HIM vendor, we see excellence in the field and want to
recognize it,” said Brandon Brock, sales and marketing manager, health
information systems, 3M Canada. “We are pleased to partner with CHIMA
for this award.”
The award, launched in January, recognizes innovation and quality
improvement for Health Information Management (HIM) projects. The
winning project from a cross-functional team at Interior Health
Authority showed in-patients with adult diabetes experienced more than
60 percent improvement in glucose control when hospitals integrate a
pre-printed insulin order form into their care.
The team receives $2,500 for its department, along with support from 3M
to promote the project externally and internally within the region. Jane
Kitazaki, project lead and HIM analyst at Royal Inland Hospital said, “I
am proud to be part of this exceptional team and to be recognized for a
project we know will help other Canadian hospitals.”
“Although often overlooked, comprehensive clinical documentation and
timely data submissions are critical to providing high quality care and
understanding processes better,” said Gail Crook, CHIMA’s CEO. “We are
thrilled 3M is encouraging and recognizing HIM professionals who play a
key role in our healthcare system.”
Finalists for the 3M HIM Team CHIMA Award:
• Lloydminister Hospital – Data Quality Improvement project
