SAS Canada offers solution to healthcare sector

TORONTO – SAS Canada, a leader in business analytics, has launched a new offering, SAS Data Integration for Health Care, designed to help analysts spend less time consolidating data and more time with analysis to help improve outcomes.

The offering is a data integration and reporting solution based on the SAS Business Analytics Framework, which lets healthcare organizations track key clinical performance indicators; consolidate data from hospitals, regions and Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs); and automate information aggregation and reporting across multiple source systems.

The solution also allows organizations to collate Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) submissions to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), and provides information sharing across the entire healthcare spectrum.

“SAS Data Integration for Health Care provides Niagara Health System with timely, detailed, accurate insights into key performance indicators,” said Teresa Struk, Director Finance and Decision Support Services, Niagara Health System. “With SAS, we can monitor KPIs easily, which helps us identify areas to improve for the greatest positive impact on both the quality of patient care and efficient hospital operations.”

SAS Data Integration for Health Care allows organizations to:

• Perform root cause analysis to address missed service level targets.
• Focus more on improving clinical performance and accountability.
• Drill down into corporate, surgery, emergency and critical care scorecards.
• Gain insight for more effective staff deployment.
• Measure progress toward CIHI benchmarks.
• True enterprise health data management

The SAS Business Analytics Framework provides automated data management capabilities and advanced business intelligence that enable healthcare organizations to harness their data for performance management across all functional areas. SAS data integration and data quality automatically integrate data from disparate sources, thoroughly manage it for integrity and keep it current, providing the best possible foundation for analysis. SAS delivers intelligence in a variety of ways, including easy self-service Web reporting and executive dashboards.

Standardized KPI computation and other analytical reporting tools help analysts perform the continuous ad hoc reporting on metrics that is essential for day-to-day hospital management. And because the SAS Business Analytics Framework is flexible, it can be expanded quickly and cost-effectively by adding capabilities to address different issues across the organization.
