Timmins embarks on energy reduction program

TIMMINS, Ont – The Timmins and District Hospital, in partnership with Johnson Controls L.P., has announced the commencement of a major Energy Retrofit Program.

The T&DH Energy Retrofit program is a comprehensive program to reduce energy usage and costs through the replacement and enhancement of existing electrical, mechanical, building automation, water and air handling systems within the hospital.

These energy upgrades not only help to create a greener environment for hospital patients, visitors and staff, but have also allowed T&DH to cash in on energy rebate incentives.

As the energy services company, Johnson Controls L.P. is serving as the single point of responsibility for the infrastructure improvements. The company is recommending technologies, managing the installation and monitoring the savings.

The cost of the improvements will be recovered through the expected operational and guaranteed energy savings. Esko Vainio, President and CEO of the Hospital said that, “The anticipated annual energy and utility savings, special grants and other operational savings will pay for this $5.7 million project to make our hospital greener.”

“Energy efficiency helps control rising energy costs, reduces environmental footprints, and increases the value of buildings. Our work in creating comfortable, safe and sustainable buildings has always been important, but never more important than now,” said Paul Scarafile, Regional Solutions Manager, Johnson Controls. “We applaud visionaries like T&DH who are committed to creating a better future for its patients and community.”

Improvements at T&DH are expected to eliminate more than 2,000 tonnes of environmental emissions annually, which is equivalent to eliminating the emissions from approximately 620 cars.
