Sudbury deploys mental-health reporting solution

TORONTO and SUDBURY, Ont. – B Sharp Technologies Inc. has announced a partnership with Hôpital Régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital (HRSRH) to deliver a web-based solution for data collection and reporting. The solution complies with the provincial and regional directives for mandatory reporting of inpatient psychiatry, community mental health and addictions programs.

The solution will span the continuum of inpatient and community mental health and addiction services across nine sites in the Sudbury-Manitoulin Districts, providing a suite of clinical assessment and case management tools.

According to Maureen McLelland (pictured), Administrative Director, Mental Health and Addiction Programs, HRSRH’s vision is to have one solution that standardizes the collection of client information that is required in the mental health and addictions environment, and which also interfaces with its existing electronic information system.

“We required a solution that would enhance our ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of mental health and addictions services in inpatient and community settings,” said McLelland.

This project will complement other Ministry initiatives, including the development and implementation of the Ontario Common Assessment of Need (OCAN), the Mental Health Common Data Set, the Inpatient RAI instrument, Drug & Alcohol Treatment Information System and Mental Health Report Card.

HRSRH’s commitment to quality and the delivery of mental health and addiction services is a top priority. “We are continually seeking to improve our client information and statistical reporting needs by facilitating the enhancement of an integrated client record across nine program sites in a standardized way … to make the best care decisions”.

Robert Lazar, B Sharp’s Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder added, “We are extremely pleased to be working in partnership with HRSRH as they continue their leadership and innovation in achieving their vision for excellence in patient care”.

The Hôpital Régional de Sudbury Regional Hospital (HRSRH) is a regional resource and referral centre for more than 530,000 residents who live across northeastern Ontario. The HRSRH offers a variety of programs and services that meet many patient care needs, with leading regional programs in the areas of cardiac care, oncology, nephrology, trauma and rehabilitation. The HRSRH is moving forward with consolidating all hospital-based services across three sites onto one site. Upon full completion in March 2010, the new hospital will see patients receive treatment in state-of-the-art surroundings, with new operating rooms, a new Emergency Department, and new medical units. The hospital is also an Academic Health Sciences Centre in collaboration with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, affiliated with Laurentian University in Sudbury, and Lakehead University in Thunder Bay.
