Hitachi to market MRIs in Canada

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – Hitachi Canada Ltd. announced that it will begin marketing its Altaire high-field Open MR system and the advanced mid-field AIRIS Elite magetic resonance imaging system in Canada. The company has signed a sales, marketing and service support agreement for the units with Hitachi Medical Systems America, Inc.

“The addition of diagnostic imaging equipment to Hitachi Canada’s product portfolio is a significant step for us,” said Howard Shearer, president and CEO of the Mississauga-based company. “The federal and provincial governments of Canada have announced changes that will allow Canadians easier access than ever before to advanced diagnostic imaging equipment.”

Richard Ernst, president and CEO of Hitachi Medical Systems America, said “the expansion of our diagnostic equipment distribution into Canada is a new stage in HMSA’s continuing growth and development. We are confident that the clinically advanced, patient-friendly Hitachi Open MR systems will prove to be a valuable investment for Canadian healthcare, and are excited to be partnered with Hitachi Canada Ltd.”

HMSA markets premium, high performance magnetic resonance imaging products of Hitachi Medical Corp. of Tokyo, Japan. These include the AIRIS Elite advanced mid-field open MR system, the Altaire high-field performance MR system and the AIRIS II MR system with advanced permanent magnet technology.

The company has more than 1,350 Open Magnetic Resonance Imaging systems installed throughout the United States and over 3,000 Open MRI systems installed worldwide. HMSA first established a leadership position in the medical industry with Open MRI systems and has expanded their modality offerings to include ultrasound, positron emission tomography, optical tomography, and 3D dental imaging.
