Canada Health Infoway appoints physician advisor

MONTREAL Canada Health Infoway announced that Dr. Susan MacLean (pictured at left) has joined the organization as Senior Medical Advisor. Dr. MacLean is a family physician and founding member of Markham Family Physicians a Family Health Group, in Markham Ontario.

Dr. MacLean will report to Richard Alvarez, CEO, as part of the executive team, and will be responsible for strengthening Infoway's relationships with the healthcare provider community at a national level.

Her background and broad professional activities will allow her to bring the perspective of physicians and other healthcare professionals to the Infoway decision-making table. This will include providing input and support to Infoway programs aimed at informing and supporting healthcare professionals.

Dr. MacLean's professional background includes significant hands-on involvement with electronic health records and telehealth services. In 1999, her clinic implemented a fully integrated electronic health record, which currently services 40,000 patients.

This was done in partnership with Markham Stouffville Hospital. Dr. MacLean has been Medical Advisor to Telehealth Ontario since its inception in 2001, and to the Telephone Health Advisory Service (THAS), which provides after-hours services to more than one million patients associated with various primary care organizations in Ontario. She has also served as Chair of the Medical Liaison Committee for Clinidata Corporation.

Dr. MacLean graduated from the University of Western Ontario's School of Medicine in 1982 and received her CCFP designation in 1984.

Canada Health Infoway was created by the government of Canada to spur the creation of electronic medical records and telehealth applications. The web site can be found at:
